Clay o' clock
Obviously, this project's purpose is to make a functional clock out of clay with any designs you want. It can be a table clock that stands or a wall clock that hangs. I chose to do a wall clock and my idea is a dream catcher. I took a big slab of clay and ran it under the press roller so it can be flat. Then, I took a wood material that has a big, round surface to trace and cut on the clay. I made separate pieces of clay to make my feathers for the dream catcher. I hand cut the shape of the feathers then etched lines on it to achieve the real look of a feather. I also etched line designs on the round-surfaced clay that look like flower petals and then carved some clay out to make it look dimensional. For the numbers of the clock, I took small, round, flat pieces of clay and stamped the numbers on it. I used a tiny, hollow object to make holes on the clock, such as one in the middle where the main clock mechanics will go and three holes on the bottom of the clock where the feathers will hang. Lastly, I painted it with glaze then fired again in the kiln. For all these clay projects, clay requires a lot of attention and careful handling because you have to constantly smooth out the cracks or make sure it doesn't dry or it's not over-wet. It was a successful clock because it is functional and it tells time accurately!
