cylinder Mugs/cups
The concept of this ceramics project is to perfect or master the use of the pottery wheel. The objective is that you make 4 similar sized-mugs or cups. It takes a lot of patience and hard work to get all 4 mugs to be the exact replica of each other. So first, I took a big chunk of clay and molded it into a ball. I laid it on the wheel centered and molded the base to the wheel so it wouldn't fly off. Then, I wet my hands really well with water in a bucket and put the pedal to the right speed. Next, I compressed-released the clay to take the excess clay off so it wouldn't be heavy and think in the end. I make sure that my elbows are on my thighs at all times to get control of the spinning clay on the wheel. I then open up the clay in the middle using my middle fingers and thumbs to hollow it out. I make sure that while opening up the clay that it is still centered and not come out lopsided. Lastly, it wouldn't be a mug if there wasn't a handle on it. So how to make a handle is by taking a ball of clay again but this time gently grabbing it down to make a tail while it really wet. I kept pulling it down and making a curvy, long handle. Afterwards, I did this 3 more times.
