Ethnic mask
For this project, we had to make ethnic masks but not of a specific ethnic group's. I wanted to make an original (Patrixia) mask where I incorporated Asian, Native American touch and my own design on it. First, a slab of flat clay was laid on top of the face mold. I carefully pressed and molded the clay on top of the fake face. Don't press too hard against the face mold or the clay will stick to it and may break, which is tragic! I cut the whole clay to the shape of the face mold and left some allowance around it because of the idea of design I have on mind. I created the eyes and nose by gently pressing on the clay to push against the mold. The eyes were a bit big and the nose was narrow and long. The pupil of the eyes, I made two circles with stars etched on it. The stars represent my country, the Philippines, which is in Asia, since there are stars on the flag. I added thin, wavy eyelashes on the eyelid, right above the eyes. I added, scored and pasted crown-like design on its forehead. I put round pearls made of clay on the crown-like headband. I poked 3 small holes on the headband where the feathers, Native American touch, will go after it's fired.
