slab mugs
I have made mugs or cups before but this particular one this time wasn't made on the pottery wheel. Slab mugs are made by rolling a slab and cutting it to a square. Next, I cut the four corners similarly, which left a shape of an addition sign. Then, I brought the sides and corners together, pinching the sides carefully to close up all gaps. Make sure the sides are tightly together so no liquid will seep out of leak through. I made my two mugs to the curved-shape look with the corners all curved and fancy looking. I made two separate stamps as designs for the slab mugs later on. I made the handles by using a compacted clay and pulling it down to the size and shape of the handle I wanted. Once the handles were a little dry but still soft, I slipped and scored it to each mug. I added a thumb nugget on top of the handles for extra style and comfort for the thumbs while holding the them. After it is fired in the kiln, I will pick a color for both mugs that goes together so it comes off as a set.
